Croydon to get new housing development

Croydon is set to become home to a new property development after a homebuilder was granted planning permission to build on the site of unused industrial units.

One and two-bedroom apartments - along with studio properties - will make up the new site, with developer Barratt Homes providing 13 of the apartments as affordable housing options.

Located on Vicarage Road, residents will be able to access central London by rail within 15 minutes, while Croydon town centre and numerous amenities will also be close by.

Adam Lawrence of Barratt Homes said the firm was "delighted" to be granted planning permission.

"[We] are looking forward to transforming [the site] into a high quality housing development that will enhance the area and benefit the local community," he added.

Construction on is set to begin in the spring of 2009, with the firms homes completed a year later.

Meanwhile, those who live in the capital and prefer to commute to work by bike may be interested in Berkeley Homes' City Quarter development in E1, where secure cycle parking spaces are provided.ADNFCR-1100-ID-18861345-ADNFCR
