First-timers and retirees 'not competing in Exeter'

Exeter is proving popular with both first-time buyers and retirees, one expert has said.

According to Samuels Estate Agent, first-time buyers are looking at flats and smaller houses, while the bigger houses are being sold retires who are have moved down from London.

However, the firm dismissed the idea that retired buyers are buying up all the available property in Exeter.

"I wouldn't say the older generation are pushing the market - they are buying the houses that are available at the price they have got," said spokesperson Cimon Eeles-Russell.

According to mouseprice.com, the property market in central Exeter has experienced annual growth of 15 per cent over the last five years.

Mr Eeles-Russell's comments came as property developer Redrow announced it had relocated to new purpose-built offices in Exeter Business Park in order to consolidate its position in the Devon market.
